THE APPLES OF ABYANEH - a Photo Essay by sr

On a recent trip to Iran, we visited the picturesque village of Abyaneh (Abyaaneh). Located in the province of Kashan this magnificent gem is nestled in the mountains between Tehran and Esfahan. It is by far one of the most clean, well-maintained places on earth and boasts the lowest illiteracy rates anywhere in Iran.

The people of the village were very kind and made the day a delight. We strolled through the streets and apple orchards, visited the local mosque, bought lavashak and traditional Abyaneh clothes from a kind old man who invited us into his house, and finally feasted on chelo kabab and zereshkt polo at the local restaurant.
