> > CONSTITUTIONAL REVOLUTION OF 1906 BY BRIAN APPLETON

Whenever a home grown nationalistic democratic movement arises, it is suppressed by external imperialist forces. In the case of the Constitutional Revolution, the Qajar Mohammad Ali Shah, with the support of Imperial Russia, tried to put it down. There were Russian officers in charge of his Persian cossack brigades when he attacked the Majlis.

Here is a political cartoon about it from that time Mohammad Ali Shah.

How often have you heard the argument from conservatives that Iran or any other 'third world' state is not ready for democracy and can only operate under dictatorship, esp one of the imperialist's choice. How ironic that when their puppet like Saddam ceases to serve their needs they 'export democracy' all of a sudden.

I find it amusing that no matter what the political stripe of a government is, they always manage to work the word 'Democratic' into the title cause it sounds so good. When West Azerbaijan had its year of independence in 1946 and went communist with the backing of the USSR, it was called The Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan.

But going back to the subject of clients and masters; needless to say Reza Shah ended up banished to South Africa because he was a client of the wrong master; the Germans lost the war.

As you know, his son, Shah Reza was installed as the US puppet and then reinstalled by the USA again after the nationalist Mossadegh had his coup and reasserted the power of the Majlis. Finally Shah Reza got axed by his masters when he stopped taking orders from the USA and started cutting deals with the Russians. The timing coincides with Carter stopping the sale of the US wheat crop to Russia.

Americans are in convenient ignorance of the fact that Iran and Russia share a border and have had centuries of cultural and economic interaction including several wars and also periods of cooperation. The Russians even loaned corrupt Qajar monarchs like Mozzafaredin Shah vast amounts of money that they squandered on trips to Europe resulting in great states of indebtedness. Some things never change...I am reminded of the entire jumbo jet load of pink marble that Empress Faradiba brought in from Europe for her swimming pool.

The agenda of the American Century and AEI folks is to restore all the countries of the Middle East to client states of the US and since the Europeans, Russians, Chinese and Japanese have scooped all the economic concessions, during the time that the US has tried to maintain a trade embargo against Iran, US military might has become their only playing card. The constant fire branding about Iran's purported nuclear weapons program is like the deja vu run up to the invasion of Iraq with its vanishing WMD. It will be a miracle if we survive the last two years of this Bush administration without an invasion of Iran and in fact we probably have Iraq to thank for slowing it down since the US military is too mired down there to take on any more campaigns.

The Great Game that Russia and England played in the 19th century continues under the US flag. The puppet/client state formula can be applied to any third world country and accounts for its very existence and continuation in a direct line of descent from the colonial era.

It is such a diabolical plot that just trying to describe it makes one appear to be a conspiracy theorist. It is the biggest scam in history.
