Hossein Behroozinia was born in Tehran. At the early age of nine he was accepted into Tehran's Conservatory of Music. Later, as a young man of seventeen, he was asked to instruct at the prestigious Centre of Preservation and Propagation of Music, where he flourished
Behroozinia has learned Tar, under the supervision of Reza Vohdaney, and the Oud under the guidance of Mansour Nariman, and then he advanced his cultivation by being introduced to the Persian radif (repertoire) of Mirza Abdullah by the famed Mohammad Reza Lotfi.
Countless distinguished members of the global Persian cultural society regard Behroozinia as a leading figure in the preservation of Iran’s traditional music. Consequentially in 2003 the Ministry of Culture decorated Hossein Behroozinia with its highest honor, the “First Order of Arts”.
Hossein has collaborated with many of the eminent voices of our legacy, the likes of Parisa, Sima Bina, Mohammad Reza Shajarian, Shahram Nazeri, Iraj Bastami and Ali-Reza Eftekhari.
Behroozinia has traveled intensely throughout Europe, Asia, and North America performing numerous sold out concerts before an international audience with various prominent music ensembles including the artistic Ensemble Aref and the brilliant Ensemble Mowlana. The L.A. Times describes Behroozinia's work as 'spectacular musicianship'.
Hossein Behroozinia made currently lives in Vancouver, where he remains dedicated to the perpetuation of Iran’s musical heritage.
Hossein wishes to perform in his most favorite place of performance, Iran. He hopes that one day Iranian classical music becomes well known around the world, and Barbat, his own instrument becomes more popular.
In a friendly Interview Hossein talked with me about his personal and professional life.
PM: Who is Hossein Behroozinia?
Hossien Behroozinia: A Persian Musician, Barbat(Oud) player.
PM: Where do you live now, and why you are there?
HB: I currently live in Vancouver, Canada. Because I believe Vancouver is the best and most comfortable city in the world.
PM: Tell us a little about how you got started with music?
HB: I started music at the age of nine at The Conservatory of Tehran. It was because my older sister was receiving education at the same school. I learned how to play Tar, Tombak, Setar, and Daf. My main instrument however, is Barbat, and I am the first person who graduated from The Conservatory of Iran.
PM: What was your motivation to music?
HB: My sister, as I mentioned before, was studying music. She was my motivation, also most importantly, I loved to be a musician. My first professional performance was at Roodaky stage, at the age of 16.
PM: Who are your favorite hero in music, and who has biggest influence on you?
