> > NEW GENERATION OF YOUNG IRANIAN MUSICIANS BY SEPIDEH NASIRI
Combining Cultures

Some of us know what we want to be when we grow up, others have their paths written for them. Talent is an unstoppable source which leads ones way. It took a couple phases for Amir London to be the musician he is today, but he never lacked  talent. At the age of 2, he started playing the piano and began performing music with his parents, who are also musicians, by 8.  By the age of 17 and still a High School student, Amir released his first record with the band Ignition and his second record with a band called A.M. Project and their album was called 'Unconscious.'  For most young and upcoming bands, the majority of albums and songs are recorded in garages, but not Amir’s. His family, who have been in the music industry for years were able to give him a hand. He recorded at his father’s studio, and London states:

“It was some of the most fun I've ever had.”

One interesting element is that Young Iranians today make use of their culture; it was no different for Amir, whose album featured a song called 'Oblivious' which had a chorus song in Farsi ('Azizam, ghorboneh oon cheshatberam'). It was a chance he took, and it was something his band
supported him on, and it ended up being their most popular song. As time passed he started going the SOLO path and finally began to write and record his own music, due to the positive and supporting response he received with the Bay Area Community. Hours upon hours, days upon days, and a countless number of sleepless nights were spent recording, re-recording, fine-tuning, adjusting, mixing, singing and perfecting these songs. Fast-forward almost 2 years lat

er, and we are nearing the end of 2009. I had the pleasure to attend his CD release party and hear him live for the first time. I may have forgotten to mention that Amir is a child hood friend of mine, but I had never heard him sing. I was listening to a cd in a friend’s car, a farsi song came on and I got the chills, I asked 'who is this?' And what’s the name of this Song;  I come to find out that Rojeh Lab, London's first single from his album 'Yek Kalameh' has been a hit and viewed by thousands of young Iranians on Radio Javan’s website.
The new generation of Iranian musicians like Amir London are combining all types of music to create sounds, but still have a cultural beat, which we all can relate to and ' Gherr '.
