> > KOCE-TV BROADCAST CELEBRATES CONTRIBUTIONS OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA’S IRANIAN-AMERICANS BY SARA SEPIDZADEH
Program Includes Babak & Friends and Rick Steve's Iran

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CALIF. (April  30 , 2009) – In an effort to better understand the perplexing nation whose government so exasperates America, and to showcase the contributions of Iranian-Americans in Southern California, KOCE-TV is hosting a rebroadcast of the travel program  “Rick Steves Iran” on Monday, May 11 at 7:00pm.  The program repeats at 9:00pm

The broadcast seeks to give a local perspective on Iranian issues through interviews with prominent members of Southern Californian’s large Persian community.   “Iranian-Americans in Los Angeles and Orange County are striving to preserve Persian culture and traditions while also contributing to America’s great institutions such as public TV,” says Mariam Khosravani, Executive Director of the Coastline Community College Foundation.  “This program is a superb example of how we believe in sharing our culture, accomplishments, and contributions.”

Organized by Khosravani and KOCE-TV Foundation Chair Jo Ellen Allen, this special presentation celebrates Southern California’s Iranian-Americans through interviews and discussions during live pledge breaks.  Guests include  Dr. Firouz Naderi, NASA scientist;  David Nahai, CEO and General Manager of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power;   Farhad Mohit, founder and CEO of DotSpots, a social media distribution platform;  Shabnam Rezaei of Norooz Productions; producer of children's cultural programming;  Farhad Mechkat, former Music Director and Conductor of the Tehran Symphony;  Essie Adibi, Director of the A. Gary Anderson Center for Economic Research and Anderson Chair of Economic Analysis at Chapman University;  and Bijan R. Kian, Director of the Export-Import Bank of the United States.

Radio host Shahrzad Ardalan of media sponsor KIRN 670AM Radio Iran will be joining KOCE hosts Maria Hall-Brown, Camille Dixon, and Rick Reiff  to interview guests.

KOCE-TV President Mel Rogers says, “This is an important opportunity for KOCE to bring together the Iranian-American community in support of public television.  We hope that the live pledge breaks demonstrate that Iranian-Americans support an important cultural resource which lifts the quality of life for all in Southern California.”

About The Program
Rick Steves’ Iran shows the glorious monuments of Iran's rich past, as well as Iranian life today--in its giant metropolis, historic capital, workaday towns, and a countryside village.   Steves captures Persian culture: from Friday prayer in a mosque to the nonconformist teen fashions at the mall; from anti-American murals to the hospitality of a famil

y dinner; and from the tranquility of rural life to the crazy traffic of modern Tehran.

Rather than a political documentary dealing with the complex issues that confront our governments, Rick Steves' Iran is a travelogue designed to increase our understanding of an ancient nation that has been a leader in its corner of the world for 2,500 years.
Enjoying ice cream with religious leaders, marveling at the popularity of nose jobs for women, and witnessing the sorrow that blankets martyrs' cemeteries,  Steves and his crew provide a glimpse of Iran never before shown on American television.
