Do you like Michael Phelps? I like him and think he actually delivered on a huge goal and no one can take that away from him. It was so unlike Bode Miller the downhill skier and World Cup champion in 2006 who was expected to plow through and win all the Olympic downhill gold medals. He didn’t even make it to the podium much less a gold medal. Anyway, it was during the most watched show – Super Bowl Sunday – news came out that Michael Phelps was caught smoking pot!
Talk about Olympic size problems! He was caught in a photo burring his face in an Olympic size bong and sucking smoke with his Olympic size lungs! It reminded me of when I was about his age and younger and going through bongs! Oh my! How we’d have liked to have his lungs back then! Imagine that!
Now who can blame him for partying? If anyone deserves to party, he is most deserving after such a summer. I just feel bad for him because he now has to endure such an outcry for what is only a misdemeanor. Sure smoking pot is bad but compared to what other athletes do this is so childish. Now he can’t even smoke anymore!
One other thing. Do you remember his interviews after his triumphant return from Olympics? He as oh so Nasser Malek Moteei, so non chalant, cool and lassie fair! Remember when you smoked pot?! How you’d move your shoulders around or move your head left to right as if you are the best philosopher in the world! I always thought that behavior is from someone who is high or been high lately. Poor kid thought he was cool and that kind of bad acting was cool behavior. If he only knew that others already been there done that.

But we could only guess and laugh since he’s already proven to be so cool in the pool. Now I’m looking forward to see how he is going to interview next time. Is he gonna laugh and move his head left and right again?! I hope so. You can always be cool and find your way out. Sometimes you just have to pay a heavy price. I still like him and just like when he was pulled over for DUI at beach when he was 19 and said he did something childish I understood what he is going through. I was just thinking that a tragedy could ruin an otherwise talented life.
I was glad to see him come out and apologize the very next day. He didn’t give any time for talking heads to even read the news much less debate it. There have been plenty of jokes though this week and hopefully they’ll come up during his future interviews.
