WAALM Awards 2008 with Exclusive Photos
 

The grand conference center - Blue of Park Inn in London welcomed its biggest and most prestigious event on 31 Oct 2008.

Plenty of British-Iranian guests of honor called the 3rd WAALM event as the most prestigious international Persian event ever conduced in London, England.

Persian and Non-Persian awardees, who contributed to the Persian culture, were representing 11 different parts of the world. The 3rd WAALM – Persian Golden Lioness Awards was conducted in three categories of: Arts, Literature and Media and 34 individuals as well as 3 organisations were officially awarded.

The 3rd Persian Golden Lioness Awards took more than four hours with plenty of amazing live performances and entertaining programmes from Pop to Classical music, from Dance to Standup comedy.

Among performers of the night we can name: Sattar, the official WAALM Vocalist and Award winner of 2005, Martik, Persian Pop Artist, Neysham Khazenie, Persian Classic Dancer, Prof. Forough and Prof Najfar Classical Musicians and Master Behroozinian, playing Persian Traditional as wells the standup comedy of Patrick Monahan and legendary Omid Djalili (Also an Awardee of 2008 in Dramatic Arts for his shows on BBC1).



The WAALM 2008 made a tribute to Lee Majors, Actor (Six Million Dollar Man); Reza Badiyi, Director of most successful TV series such as: Mission: Impossible, Baretta, The Rockford Files; Youth for Human Rights International – YHRI, a major collaborator of the United Nations in Human Rights education represented by its President Dr Mary Shuttleworth, as well as British – Iranian Business Association represented by its Director Babak Emamian.

WAALM also displayed its academic values and credentials as well as support on Iranian Studies by honoring and hosting Dr. Vesta Curtis, Dr John Curtis, OBE of the British Museum, Prof Dr. Patrick Hunt and Prof. Dr. Richard Davis from Stanford University, and Prof. Dr. Kaveh Farrokh from British Columbia University as well as several outstanding writers such as Ren A Hakim and Eric Jerpe among its awardees of 2008.

Among WAALM’ s many distinguished guests: Mr Mike Gayle from the USA Embassy, Iranian Affairs in London and Dr Nahid Khazenie of NASA can be named. The 3rd Persian Golden Lioness Awards could successfully fulfill its mission to establish a Cultural Diplomacy far from any politics and religion and could project the true image of Iranians in Diaspora and Persian Culture.

The World Academy of Arts, Literature and Media – WAALM was established in 2005 by Prof. Dorbayani and his spouse Dr Marjan Abdi and had its first two awarding events in Budapest. The total number of Awardees from this Academy now reached 87.

The Award winners of WAALM, know as the members of the WAALM Academy, are given the right to nominate the next candidates in their field of profession and all the nominees will be forwarded to the WAALM’ s Moderation Team (An anonymous team of 14 Academician with practical experience) for selection.
