Magic of Persia Raises More than $1 Million for Charity

Saturday marked the end of an exceptional event in Dubai organized by Magic of Persia. At the heart of the four night extravaganza aptly entitled 'Magical Nights in Dubai' was the Iranian Art Auction set to raise funds for several charities and cultural causes. This event took place at the Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel and kicked off with a beautiful caviar reception. The MC for the evening was Maz Jobrani who assisted Jussi Pylkakaenen from Christie's to auction off more than 34 pieces. The range of Iranian art was donated from various Iranian artists. The pieces included paintings, Iranian calligraphy, installations, photographs and more, some of which are on display here. Most notable were pieces from famed Iranian artists such as Nasser Ovissi, Sadegh Tabrizi, Behzad Behnam, Farideh Lashai, Iran Darroudi and Parviz Tanavoli. The charities included Encyclopaedia Iranica, Magic of Persia Education Programme, Dubai's Al Noor Training Centre for Children with Special Needs, and Abu Dhabi's Future Centre for Special Needs. Magic of Persia raised more than $1 million dollars that evening, through the generous support of many art lovers who not only raised the credibility of a few aspiring artists but also gave for a good cause. 'Only Love' (Faghat Eshgh), fetching a cool $300,000. Iranian art, like Indian art, has started to become more popular in the international art scene and events like this wil no doubt have a positive effect on the industry for all Iranian artists. Congratulations to Shirley Elghanian and the tireless team of Magic of Persia for pulling off a classy event and raising the bar for Iranian culture, art, and entertainment.
