Feature > Opinion > BUSH AND AHMADINEJAD MEET IN CENTRAL PARK BY SARA SEPIDZADEH
A Momentary Fantasy

I find the whole thing quite ironic and hypocritical. Ahmadinejad comes to New York and every person in town has an opinion (but no one can pronounce his name). That’s what is great about this country they say. Then they say that he shouldn’t be given the podium at Columbia because that legitimizes his existence. Isn’t it ironic that the very “freedoms” we are fighting to protect are now censoring another person’s point of view? Is he not the president of Iran? You may not agree with his point of view, but for god’s sake, let’s not deny that he is ruling a nation. Let’s open dialogue.
What I find more ironic and more hypocritical is that Ahmadinejad, the man who censors everyone in Iran, takes advantage of the American “free speech” notions to come here and clearly voice his opinion. These politicians are all cut from the same cloth: avoiding the issues, looking for the next opportunity to win popularity contests.

I hope that the childishness can be set aside and the US and Iran will finally sit down and talk like adults. There is nothing wrong with dialogue and from what I understand both Bush and Ahmadinejad are in New York right now.
Central Park, anyone?
