Having started the season with 4 straight wins Persepolis have dropped points in their last two matches, their latest draw against Moghavemat Sepasi of Shiraz produced 6 goals at Tehran’s Azadi stadium in front of over 60,000 spectators, the visitors took the lead early in the match with Mahmoud Mohammadi converting a penalty in 7 minutes to put Sepasi in the lead, Persepolis struck back three times to take a 3-1 lead but a brave Sepasi levelled the match thanks to two quality Bahman Tahmasebi goals, the match ended 3-3. Mohsen Khalili of Persepolis became the league’s top scorer on 6 goals after his double against Sepasi.
Persepolis still lead the table on goal difference in Persian Gulf League (PGL), they are now on 14 points level with Saba Battery, Iran’s representative in Asian Champions League (ACL) Sepahan of Esfahan did not play in PGL week 6 due to their return game against Kawasaki in Japan which will be played on September 26th, Sepahan are now trailing the top two teams by one point but have a game in hand.

Persepolis head coach Afshin Ghotbi has faced criticism for his second half substitutions against Sepasi which proved ineffective; in particular his half time replacement of Shays Rezaei with Masoud Zarreh proved damaging since Rezaei was doing well in defence.
Persepolis’ arch rivals Esteghlal of Tehran took on Sepasi’s rivals Bargh Shiraz, their match also ended in a draw (1-1) which made it an all even encounter between Tehran and Shiraz teams in week 6. Malavan Anzali experienced their first defeat of the season going down 2-1 to Shirin Faraz of Kermanshah. Newly promoted Sanat Naft Abadan and Pegah Gilan are finding it hard in the top flight and are currently the bottom two teams in the table.
