Not a Day seems to pass in the Country of Molière, without reading in the French Press at least one positive review of Marjane Satrapi’s Cannes Jury Prized film Persepolis. To speak of a Persepolis Generation of die hard Fans would not be exaggerated all the more that they are not even Iranian but often French nationals. The Prestigious Studio Magazine has like many other Cinema Magazines covering new feedback on the movie’s Box office and Critical Success. A French fan comments that Persepolis is one of those films that SHOULD be compulsory in school screenings. Others notice that the Film unjustly boycotted by the Iranian dictatorial regime of President Ahmadinejad for being anti-Islamic is turning into a political manifesto against intolerance in all its forms all the more that the American Cast is being completed by Sean Penn and Iggy Pop two Celebrities at the forefront of political activism in Hollywood.
After luring approximately 289,036 paying viewers to the movie theaters in its first week of public release, Persepolis has easily joined the Top of the French Box Office Summer Hits by reaching out to One Million viewers in less than two months since its release.
For those (often Iranian compatriots) who doubted that the story of a childhood growing up in Revolutionary Iran would be a “failure” and “uncinematical”, the recent figures published by STUDIO Magazine prove the contrary.
