About Djanbazian Dance Company
Anna Djanbazian/Artistic Director
Artistic Director, Anna Djanbazian is an accomplished choreographer, performer, and teacher who has been dancing professionally since the age of three.
At 5 years old she performed in the Farhang Hall in Tehran, Iran and her prodigious talent received recognition. Anna took her first dance lessons from her father, well known ballet master Sarkis Djanbazian. After her father passed away, Anna traveled abroad to study dance. She obtained her B.A. in classical ballet and traditional folk dance from Russia.
After her return to Iran, Anna developed a career as producer, teacher, dancer and choreographer at her dance academy for twelve years. During these years she created over one hundred dance numbers and full-length ballets.
Anna Djanbazian is known for her use of abstraction combined with all the elements of dramatic dance theater. She combines the elegance, grace and suppleness of the Vaganova School with distinctive ability to express all shades of emotion with sensitivity and intuition.
After immigrating to United States, Anna established the Djanbazian Dance Academy in Glendale in 1988 while attending UCLA to receive her master’s degree in Modern Dance Choreography. She formed her company in 1992 and toured all over Los Angels in various festivals and events.
Her unique choreographic vocabulary comes through inner emotional source. “Dance for me has never been about steps, but more a way of seeing and communicating”.
