Juliette Binoche Paints Kiarostami for Les Cahiers du Cinema

For the latest July-August issue of Les Cahiers du Cinema, the prestigious French Film Magazine, the French Star and 1996 Oscar Awardee for The English Patient was asked to portray different film directors she admires and worked or will work with. Amongst the selected portraits were Michael Haneke, André Téchiné, Léos Carax, Krzysztof Kieslowski, Amos Gitai, Hou Hsiao-Hsien and Abbas Kiarostami all respected filmmakers and whose works have been regularly followed by Les Cahiers du Cinema over the years.

Binoche will be working with Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami this September on his first non-Persian Speaking film to be shot in Italy and entitled Copie-Conforme aka certified Copy.

The plot of the film is still very much speculated but is summarized parsimoniously:

In Italy to promote his latest book, a middle-aged English writer meets a young French woman and jets off to San Gimignano with her.

Juliette Binoche has demonstrated her eclectic choices in films appearing in equally Box Office Hits as well as more artistically ambitious works that have allowed her to connect with filmmakers worldwide. She made a much noticed trip to Iran in 2006 and met Kiarostami to speak about their common interests and the eventuality to work together. We will certainly hear more about the film and its protagonists in the months to come.
