director Niki Karimi to be on the jury of the Cinéfondation and the short films section

The last decade issue of Cannes in 1997 introduced  Iranian New Wave Cinema to the World by conferring  Abbas Kiarostami with the Palme D’Or .

The  60th Cannes Film Festival this year has selected Iranian actress and director Niki Karimi to be on the jury of the Cinéfondation and the short films section of the event, which will take place from May 16 to 27.

Chinese director Jia Zhang ke will preside over the jury, which includes Deborah Nadoolman Landis (costume designer, USA), J.M.G. Le Clezio (writer, France), and Dominik Moll (director, France).

Karimi, 36, was also among the jury members for the debut features section of the 57th Berlin International Film Festival, which took place last February.

In addition, she was chosen to be on the jury of the international Thessaloniki film festival(Greece, 2002), and on the juries of many other film events, including Rennes (France 2003), Damascus (Syria 2004), Switzerland (2005), Delhi 'Osian' (India 2006), Reykjavik (Iceland 2006), and Izmir (Turkey, 2006).

Karimi has been widely acclaimed for her roles in many popular Iranian films, and has won numerous awards in international and Iranian events. She has also directed several short films and the two feature length movies 'A Few Days Later' (2006), and 'One Night' (2005).

She appears in Sirus Alvand's film 'The Second Wife', which is currently at the postproduction stage.

The Official Jury of the Cinéfondation and Short and Films is an international jury comprised of a President and four film personalities. It awards the Short Film Palme d'Or ( different from the more famous Feature Film Palme D’Or Prize ) as well as the prizes for the three best films of the Cinéfondation.

As for the films in Competition for the Feature  Palme D’Or, it should be noticed that Marjane Satrapi’s French Production Persepolis has been nominated.
