Asia Society’s Annual Iran Family Day took place this year on March 3rd at the museum facilities on the Upper East Side. This year’s Norooz festivities included programs for kids and adults alike. There was a fun round of gold fish catching, where kids tried their luck for their Sofreh Haft Seen. Coloring sheets and crafts were on hand under the direction of Mona Ghasemi. Mona took time to explain to the children the seven haft seen items on display and helped them draw and color. Babak & Friends – A First Norooz film was also screened in English.
The highlight of the day was a wonderful performance by the Amir Vahab Ensemble in the main auditorium of Asia Society. This talented group, which included Amir Vahab and three other performers on Daf, vocals and drums, was a true pleasure to watch. The ensemble sang a variety of classic Persian folk and love songs including a Kurdish song, an Azari song, and an Afghan song. They also infused bit of Hafez poetry into the program, which the audience enjoyed. Asia Society has once again pulled off a beautiful and authentic event to complete its latest exhibition named “Glass, Gilding, and Grand Design: Art of Sasanian Iran (224-642)”, which will be on display until May 20th.
