On my last trip to Iran, I was lucky enough to travel south to the beautiful island of Kish. While Tehran was covered in snow and smog, we took a leisurely flight and arrived in what is looking more and more like Florida. A modern airport, clean, empty roads, palm trees and beautiful sandy beaches.
We stayed at a fairly new Vegas-style hotel named The Darioush Grand Hotel. The theme here is Persepolis, and were it not for the thin Roosari's the receptionist were wearing, I would not have known we were in Iran.
While the dress code seems surprisingly relaxed and welcoming, the clientele cut across all backgrounds and people. Giant Persepolis figures greeted us as we arrived into the hotel. A beautifully decorated lobby, nice rooms, good service, and fanastic views are all things you can expect at the DArioush Grand Hotel. The hotel also offers beach activities, swimming pools, a business center with internet, and a full restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. As it is right on the beach, evening strolls and bike rides are among the top activities. There is also beach Volleyball, clay tennis courts, and paddle boats on the man-made hotel lake.

The best part of the trip for me at this hotel was the big breakfast we indulged in every morning. The sheer variety of breads, fruits, fresh cheeses, sweets and spreads just made me a really happy. They had lavash, sangaki, taftoon, barbari and more. They had khameh and honey and they offered delicious juices of all sorts. Paintings, reliefs and murals of Persepolis are found throughout the hotel and remind us of a grand era in Persian history. I only wish this hotel would be in Vegas, so that more people would see it.
And finally as far as other activities go, well there is some sightseeing to be done and of course, the notorious shopping malls, which offer fake brands galore. Nike, Adidas, Gap, Esprit, Puma, and more. I walked out with a $20 red 'Nike' sports jacket which was no doubt assembled in a sweatshop in Indonesia. What gave it away? Well, I normally wear a small to medium and there the XL 'Asian size' barely covered my arms.
And oh yeah, on my way to the gym yesterday, the button fell off.
